Surfaces We Clean

• Concrete driveways and walkways. Poured concrete is porous, and everything from tire marks to leaf tannins soaks in. A surface cleaner and the right pressure lift it back out evenly, with no zebra stripes.
• Brick and concrete pavers. Paver driveways, patios, and walkways are the pride of a lot of Shore homes and also the first surface to turn black. We clean them without blowing out the joints.
• Patios and outdoor kitchens. Pavers, stamped concrete, flagstone, and bluestone, cleaned so the grill area stops leaving your feet gray.
• Pool decks. Concrete, pavers, travertine, and Kool Deck. Algae and biofilm come off, and the deck stops being a slip hazard.
• Steps, stoops, and curbs. The small stuff that makes the front of the house look finished.

What Comes Off

Black and green algae. The dark film that spreads across pavers and shaded concrete is a living thing, and the Jersey Shore humidity feeds it. We kill it and rinse it off rather than just knocking the surface layer loose.

Oil, grease, and tire marks. A degreaser pre-treatment followed by hot water pulls oil out of the pores. Read our guide to oil stains if you want to know why the cat litter did not work.

Rust stains. Fertilizer granules, metal furniture, and irrigation water all leave orange rust on concrete. Rust needs a dedicated treatment, and we carry it.

Leaf and tannin stains. The brown ghost prints left behind after fall leaves sit on wet concrete.

Sand, salt, and storm grime. After a nor’easter, driveways near the beach are coated with a gritty layer that a hose will not move.

How We Do It

A bare pressure-washer wand in the wrong hands leaves permanent stripe marks on concrete and gouges pavers. We use a rotary surface cleaner, which spins a pair of nozzles under a hood and cleans in a wide, even path. Pressure is matched to the surface. Concrete can take a lot. Pavers, stamped concrete, and softer stone take less. Where a stain calls for it, we pre-treat with a degreaser or rust remover before the water ever hits.

For pavers, the finishing step matters. Cleaning always loosens some joint sand. Once the surface dries we can re-sand with polymeric sand, which locks the joints, keeps weeds out, and slows the algae down. Sealing afterward is optional but worth talking about, because it holds the color and makes the next cleaning easier.

When to Schedule

Spring, after the last freeze, is when most people call. That is when winter’s damage is most visible. Late summer is the second wave, when pool decks need a mid-season cleaning and patios are about to host the last cookouts of the year. Fall is a good time for driveways, since a clean surface heading into winter sheds leaf stains and grows less algae under the snow.
